1987. Acrylic on canvas panel. 24"x30".
Shortly after it's formation, the young planet Earth suffered a heavy barrage of asteroids and comets during a time known as the Era of Heavy Bombardment. Few traces of these impacts remain visible today because of the resurfacing of our planet by tectonic forces and our atmosphere. Since it has no air or tectonic activity, the moon has retained most of the scars it also received during the period of bombardment.
