The Flying Horse

1996. Acrylic on stretched canvas. 30"x40".

Scattered throughout our galaxy are interstellar clouds of gas whose swirls and eddies have shaped them to vaguely resemble earthly creatures. The Owl, Tarantula and Eagle nebulae are a few of the denizens of this galactic zoo.

Darkly silhouetted against a glowing cloud of gas in Orion is a small but well-known shape called the Horsehead Nebula, which was the inspiration for this purely imaginary painting.
