Most asteroids whirl in the darkness far beyond the planet Mars, yet some wander throughout our solar system and a few pass dangerously near Earth. The abrupt disappearance of the dinosaurs has led many scientists to blame the extinction of those great reptiles on the Yucatan impact event, which left a giant crater buried beneath the Yucatan peninsula sixty-five million years ago.
