This web of softly glowing gas marks the site of an ancient supernova where a massive star briefly outshone the entire Milky Way galaxy. A supernova remnant like this may spread outward at a rate of thousands of kilometers every second, enriching the interstellar medium with the heavy elements forged in the heart of the star before it was torn asunder.
